Hard Times for the Animal Kingdom contains 14 tracks of mostly original songs written by The Manly Deeds, as well as reinterpretations of beloved standards. Tales of road-weary travelers, bitter and battered sailors, workers and lovers. To capitalize on the group’s spirited performances, all tracks were recorded live in one day at a beautiful 1870s stone church in the heart of Baltimore. The vaulted ceilings and stained glass windows lent a lush, natural reverb to the band’s plunk and scrappiness.
